Business Intelligence & Analytics Projects
Projects completed during my masters studies at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.
Title: The MLB Pitcher
Tools Used: R, ggplot2, R Markdown
Description: An analysis of 766 MLB pitchers using the 2023 pitching stats kept by the league to determine if the teams with the best pitching were the teams to make it to the playoffs.
Key Insights: A team can overcome weaker pitching to still make the playoffs and win the World Series.
Title: Joseph’s Pharmaceuticals
Tools Used: SAS Viya
Description: Joseph’s Pharmaceuticals is looking to license a prescription product. After comparing the raw data, a recommendation will be made for which product would be the better investment over the next 5 years.
Key Insights: If basing the estimation on the downside prediction of market share, the company should invest in the depression Rx product.
Title: A Database for the Baseball Hall of Fame
Tools Used: Oracle SQL Developer, Tableau
Description: The creation of an easily searchable database for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Key Insights: This database would be useful to fans who want to compare the Hall of Fame members. It would also be useful to the social media team for quick player references for themed social media posts. It could be expanded to be used for tracking sales and admission as well as donor and membership information.
Title: Analysis of Winning in Hockey
Tools Used: JMP
Description: The 2012/2013 to 2017/2018 NHL season statistics are used to determine what element(s) of a hockey game leads to a team win.
Key Insights: There is a slight advantage to being the home due to the away team having slightly higher total penalty minutes. The statistics create a model that only tells 17% of the situation so more information would be required to analyze further.
